In a major push to strengthen the Indian Army’s counter-terrorism (CT) capabilities, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finalized 13 contracts worth Rs 1,981.90 crore under the Emergency Procurement (EP) mechanism.

Executed through fast-track procedures, the procurements aim to enhance situational awareness, lethality, mobility, and troop protection in high-threat counter-terrorism environments, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a press release.

Key systems being acquired include:

  • Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS)
  • Low-Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR)
  • Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS)—including launchers and missiles

In the wake of recent escalations with Pakistan following India’s Operation Sindoor, the acquisition of these systems has been deemed critical. The procurement list also includes Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs), loitering munitions such as Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) drones, and a range of unmanned aerial platforms.

As reported earlier, the Indian Army’s order for 450 Nagasrea-1R loitering munitions aligns with this broader acquisition plan.

Additional equipment slated for induction includes:

  • Bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets
  • Night sights for rifles
  • Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs)—in both heavy and medium variants

The MoD noted that the entire procurement process was completed within compressed timelines to ensure rapid capability enhancement. An overall outlay of RS 2,000 crore had been earmarked for these acquisitions.

Emphasising indigenisation and operational readiness, the ministry reiterated that the EP route enables the bridging of urgent capability gaps and ensures the swift induction of mission-critical equipment.
